The Experience

“Most definitely, my personal practice influences how I teach. I’m not sure if there is any other way. The important part of teaching is doing whatever it is you ask of your students. How is it possible to expect students to practice regularly if I am not doing such myself?

Leading by example is important. On the other hand, I have recognised that immersing myself in the practice of yoga is rather easy versus many of my students who are balancing numerous things. I have students with demanding jobs, multiple children, physical limitations, and/or other stressors. Whereas I acknowledge not only is it easier for me to carve out time to practice daily, I teach it, have time for study, have made multiple trips to Mysore, India and don’t have children of my own.

My goal is to do my best to create a space for people to integrate the practice into their lives in any way they can. Acceptance for where every individual is in their development is very important in how I facilitate a space for learning the practice.”

ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally taught in the “Mysore” style and is the most impactful approach in learning and understanding the practice. The name Mysore is derived from the actual city located in Southern India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois lived, studied, taught and raised his family for most of his life.

Mysore is supervised self-practice where the āsanas (postures) are introduced and taught, one at a time. The student can quickly memorize the sequence with both confidence and comfort, ultimately building the skills to move through the practice establishing a sense of empowerment, steadiness and calm. In class, the student will advance at their own rate with the guidance of an experienced teacher.

In turn, the Ashtanga yoga practice is offered to each individual student, fully dependent on where they are the day they walk into class.

In fact, in Mysore the teacher can better suit the needs of those who need special attention or guidance in learning.

The Week

We will explore Ashtanga Primary Series practice and method during the morning Mysore class and in-depth learning in the afternoon. Your already intensive yoga programme can add up activities like hiking, walking or biking, and sea sports. We will also have a masseur available on spot.

DAILY ROUTINES

We will start our day with Mysore session alternated with Led Primary on designated days. Each morning will be dedicated to Mysore practice based on the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga and Led Primary on designated days. All guests will be self-led under watchful guidance and supportive instruction on Laruga.

The late afternoon workshops will be focused on all aspects of the Ashtanga Yoga methodology, including practical techniques and philosophical wisdom regarding integrating yoga principles into daily life.

We want you to feel as if you’re on holiday with the healing practice.

As you will soon discover, these intimate bay houses are comfy and ideal for self-care and learning, enjoying, relaxing socializing and sharing. Brač island is rich in turquoise bays with stunning beaches, local organic produce and gastronomy.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

Laruga Glaser has been practicing Ashtanga yoga continuously for over 23 years. Laruga is one of the most senior Ashtanga teachers in the world with a Level 2 Certification and a charisma who share her yogic knowledge and ethos off & beyond the mat. Starting at the beginning of her 20s, she was immediately drawn to the practice after working with other forms of yoga years prior. After establishing a committed practice she then deepened her studies traveling to Mysore, India annually to practice at KPJAYI where the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught and now his grandson, R. Sharath Jois teaches. Laruga has made more than 14 trips to Mysore and is on a mission to continue to learn and grow as a student as well as a teacher. She is one of the few in the world who have been given the distinction of being certified to teach up to Advanced B, which is not easily given and takes many years to earn. Through it all, Laruga teaches as an act of deep sharing and love for what yoga develops in each individual, facilitating space to open, challenge, and inspire those to realize their inherent potential, and has been personally invited all over the world to do so.

Q & A

DO I NEED TO BE AN ADVANCED PRACTITIONER

Some of us might wonder if we were too old or unskilled to practise ashtanga?

It’s never too late, and it’s always a good moment to start whenever you feel like it.
A retreat is a place of sharing and learning; topped with Laruga’s guidance, it offers lots of learning and growing.

She has a personal approach and follows you according to your present skills. That is the best part of yoga. Yoga has a place for each of us. It is a unity in the difference.
Moreover, practising asana is only a part of various weekly activities and experiences we plan in Rovinj. Asana practice is only a part of yoga, and there is much more yoga beyond asana.

Or, if you feel already a long-skilled and advanced practitioner, you can feel assured of learning something new from the mastery of Laruga. You will feel the difference afterwards.

WHY SHOULD I ENROL THIS RETREAT

Maybe you have one goal in your asana practice that you wish to deepen and need guidance, support and clarification?

Maybe you wish to refresh your ashtanga routine and enjoy new places and friends?

Are you fed up with the heaviness of everyday struggle and searching for escape in Nature and the sea?

Do you feel as if you have lost connection with yourself?

Would you like to establish a healthier routine in your lifestyle?

If you answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you cannot hope for a better teacher than Laruga is and a better wellness spot than Rovinj.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE THIS RETREAT

In my experience, retreat week works on many levels. That’s why people coming to retreat have different reasons and goals in their minds when deciding to book an event. Also, participants are so magnificently other from such diverse places, cultures, backgrounds and traumas, to be honest.

Though, we all have our quest for more meaningful, sustainable and truthful living in common. Suppose you need any support in grounding, setting up your goals, finding your purpose, transforming your body abilities, releasing unhealthy patterns or just insight into meditation and pranayama.

In that case, retreating is always a good idea. You will always take back home more than you thought you came for. Most probably, you will leave the retreat unburdened, light and thankful to yourself for deciding to go, full of self-promises and somehow ‘enlightened’.

WHAT COULD I EXPECT FROM THIS RETREAT

When choosing a suitable retreat, think about your primary expectations:

– Retreat to rest and relax; trauma or stress recovery

– Retreat to learn and challenge – intensive daily program

– Retreat for hedonism – skipping too much sweating

Most retreats have all the above elements within; the difference is only how much of each. The perfect retreat has all those aspects balanced to offer you an ideal experience of wholeness.

The furthermost luxury of retreating is not in premium furniture and bed linen (not that we don’t like it) but in encompassing a wide range of your personal physical, emotional and social needs.

YOU will learn and be able to ask anything about the ashtanga method directly from the source.

This is Laruga’s third retreat in Croatia.
